Name-based checks for applicants in Alberta

Alberta employers, volunteer groups and landlords commonly ask for a criminal record check but do not always say which type. Before you order, ask the organization which one it accepts so you only pay once.

Common reasons for a check in Alberta

• Employment and new-hire screening, including contract and site work
• Volunteering with schools, sports leagues and community organizations
• Rental and housing applications that ask for a check
• Licensing and registration applications that name the check they need

Which check should I choose?

The organization asking for your check decides which type it accepts. Order the one it names, a CPIC check or a CRJMC. If it only says “criminal record check”, ask which type it accepts. Compare CPIC and CRJMC.
