Common reasons for a check in British Columbia

• Employment and new-hire screening
• Volunteering with community groups, clubs and charities
• Rental and housing applications that ask for a check
• Security industry jobs, where an employer may ask for a check in addition to the province’s own licence screening (details)
• Roles with children or vulnerable adults, which can involve separate screening. Ask the organization what it requires.

Which check should I choose?

The organization asking for your check decides which type it accepts. Order the one it names, a CPIC check or a CRJMC. If it only says “criminal record check”, ask which type it accepts. Compare CPIC and CRJMC.
